Turning a comic into a Story Video

If you've already made a comic, you don't have to retype the story to get a video of it. ComicInk can adapt an issue you've drawn into a Story Video — the scenes are written from that issue's pages and panels, and your characters come along.

Story Videos are web-only. This flow isn't available in the iOS app.

Two ways to turn a comic into a video

The Turn into Video button. Open the issue you want to adapt. In the editor's left-hand Tools rail, click Turn into Video. Pick an aspect ratio (9:16 for Reels, Shorts and TikTok; 1:1; or 16:9), and confirm.

Ask Sidekick. In any editor, ask for it in your own words:

• "turn this comic into a video"
• "make a story video out of my Nightfall issue 1"

Sidekick finds the comic, confirms which one it's about to adapt, then creates the video and opens it for you.

Does it write the video script from my comic?

Yes — you don't write the script yourself, and you don't paste your comic in anywhere.

The video opens on the Script tab and starts adapting straight away — you'll see the scenes appear one by one as they're written from your comic. There's no button to press and nothing else to fill in.

What carries across from the comic:

• The story. Each scene is adapted from your issue's pages and panels, including the narration and dialogue you wrote.
• Your cast. Characters, assets, and locations from the comic are matched to the scenes they appear in, so the same faces show up in the video. If the script mentions someone who isn't in your cast yet, Sidekick offers to add them.
• The art style. Your comic's style is matched to its closest video equivalent — a Cartoon comic becomes Cartoon Animation, for example. You can change it afterwards in the video's settings.

A video usually has fewer scenes than the comic has panels — it condenses the story to a shareable length rather than filming every panel.

Adapting the script is free. You're not charged for the adaptation, only for rendering the scenes into video afterwards. See Story Video credits and costs.

After your comic is adapted

The video is a separate project from the comic. Editing one doesn't change the other, and adapting the same issue twice creates two independent videos.

From here it's a normal Story Video: refine the scenes on the Script tab, optionally add storyboards, then render and publish. Your first scene render is free.

If the scenes didn't appear

The scenes didn't appear, or you see an error. Reopen the video and click Generate script — it picks up from your comic's script and tries again.

Your video looks empty. Make sure you actually opened it. Creating the video and opening it are two steps: the adaptation runs when the video opens, so a video you created and navigated away from will still be empty when you come back — opening it starts the adaptation then.

You wanted a different issue. Each video adapts one specific issue, chosen when you create it. To adapt a different issue, start again from that issue.
