The flipbook reader

The flipbook reader is the page-by-page view of an issue. It's how you read your comic, edit it, and how the public reads your published comics. Same component, different controls depending on whether you're the creator or a reader.

Controls

• Arrow keys — left/right to flip pages.
• Click left or right edge of the page — flip backward or forward.
• Swipe on touch devices — swipe left/right to flip.
• Page indicator — shows current page / total pages.

Editing controls (creators only)

When you open one of your own issues, the flipbook editor adds:

• Click any panel to edit dialogue, narration, or regenerate just that panel.
• Use the tools rail down the left side for page and issue actions — regenerate the current page, upload an image, reorder pages, translate, export, publish, and more. When you're on the cover, the rail's primary action becomes Regenerate Cover (or Generate Cover if it doesn't have one yet).

Languages

When an issue has multiple language versions, readers can switch language from the reader UI:

• A language picker appears in the toolbar.
• Switching reloads the page imagery in the new language.
• The reader's preferred browser language is selected by default if available.

Reactions and comments (public reader)

On a published issue, readers can:

• React with a heart/like (no signup required for the reaction; tracked by browser).
• Comment — login required for comments.

You'll see all reactions and comments from your dashboard view of the issue.

Reading on mobile

The flipbook is mobile-first: full-screen view, swipe gestures, no desktop-only UI. On the iOS app, the reader is native.

Reading direction

New comics and series written in Hebrew, Arabic or Urdu read right to left, the way books in those languages do:

• Panels: panel 1 sits at the top right, and each row reads from right to left.
• Speech bubbles: inside a panel, the first line is in the rightmost bubble.
• Pages: the book opens from the right. Swipe right, or press the left arrow key, to turn forward.

Every other comic reads left to right.

Comics and series made before right-to-left reading arrived keep reading left to right, including any new issue you add to them, so a series always reads one way.

You can change a series' direction in Series settings until its first page is drawn. After that it's locked, because the pages were drawn for that direction.

The iOS app shows right-to-left comics with their pages in order, but turns them left to right for now.

Audio and narration

Comics are read silently — there's no text-to-speech or read-aloud in the flipbook, and dialogue and narration are shown as text in the panels. If you want a version with spoken voices and music, that's the separate Story Videos feature, which turns an issue into a narrated video. See music and voices in Story Videos.

What readers see

Public readers see only:

• The pages
• The cover
• The title and creator name
• Reaction counts and comment thread
• A discreet link to ComicInk

They do not see your dashboard, your other issues, or any private metadata. Each public URL is fully self-contained.
