Character costs per issue
Every character you add costs 10 credits, including its initial avatar. There's no free-character quota — the 1st character in an issue costs the same as the 20th.
How it works
When you add a character to an issue:
- Defining the character: costs 10 credits, which generates the initial avatar image.
- Regenerating the avatar: costs 10 credits each time, with no limit on how many times you regenerate.
- Regenerating pages that include the character: costs the normal page rate (50 credits) — same as any page.
See regenerating images for the full cost reference.
Why flat pricing?
Each character adds a visual reference that gets passed to the AI when generating a page that includes them. A flat 10-credit cost per character (create or regen) keeps pricing simple and predictable, whether your issue has 2 characters or 20.
Sharing characters across issues in the same series
Characters defined in a series are available to all its issues. You pay the 10-credit cost once, when you first define the character — reusing that same character in issues 2, 3, etc. of the series doesn't cost anything extra, because you're not creating a new character, just selecting an existing one for the issue.
A single series can hold up to 50 characters total (and up to 50 reusable assets). Because the roster is shared across every issue and each issue uses only the characters you pick for it, you rarely hit this — and it means you're never forced to delete a character that an earlier issue still uses just to make room in a later one.
Keeping costs down with a large cast
If your story has a lot of distinct characters:
- Reuse existing characters — most stories can run on a tight cast. Combine "the bartender," "the bouncer," and "the bystander" into a single named character.
- Split the issue — if your story has 8 distinct characters, consider whether it should be a multi-issue arc, spreading the character-definition cost across issues as the cast is introduced gradually.
Where to see the count
In the issue editor's character panel, each character tile shows its status and any pending regeneration cost. The dashboard credit counter updates live as you add or regenerate characters.
Removing a character
You can remove a character from an issue any time. If you've already spent 10 credits to define or regenerate them, those credits aren't refunded — the cost is for the generation itself, not a deposit.
