# The Video Studio: Script, Storyboard, and Video

Every Story Video is edited inside the **Video Studio**. It has two parts:

- A centered **Script / Storyboard / Video** toggle that switches the main workspace.
- A left-hand rail with **Tools**, **Cast**, **Assets**, and **Locations** panes.

All three tabs and all four rail panes are open immediately — there is no approval step that unlocks them. **[Sidekick](https://help.comicink.ai/en/article/sidekick-your-ai-collaborator-1dct3ek/)** sits in a persistent right-hand column and can write scenes, render clips, manage cast/assets/locations, and open Publish for you, on top of anything described below.

For a quick overview of the whole flow from creation to export, see [Getting started with Story Videos](https://help.comicink.ai/en/article/getting-started-with-story-videos-p1ey58/).

## The Script / Storyboard / Video toggle

### Script

The Script tab is a flowing scene document — the same kind of editor used for the comic **Script** view, not a grid of cards. Each scene appears as a block headed **"Scene NN"** with its narration, dialogue, action, setting, and characters underneath.

A video you created from scratch opens here with **zero scenes**. You build the script by describing your story to Sidekick, which drafts scenes directly into the document; you can also edit any field in place yourself. (A video [adapted from a comic](https://help.comicink.ai/en/article/turning-a-comic-into-a-story-video-lhgsb2/) is the exception — it starts writing its scenes as soon as you open it.) Drag-and-drop reordering is disabled in the document — to move a scene, ask Sidekick to reorder it for you.

The Script tab stays editable throughout — while a scene is rendering, after a batch finishes, and after the whole video has been published. There's no state where it locks.

See [Editing the script and scenes](https://help.comicink.ai/en/article/editing-the-script-and-scenes-1xdu4o6/) for the full field-by-field guide.

### Storyboard

The Storyboard tab holds optional still frames — up to **two per scene** (an opening and a closing beat) — that show the video model exactly how a scene should look, rather than leaving composition to the AI's own interpretation. Generated frames become the **top-priority reference images** for that scene's render, ahead of location, cast, and asset references.

Click an empty dashed tile to generate a frame. There's no confirmation dialog — it charges **50 credits immediately**. Tiles are shown in the video's own aspect ratio (9:16, 1:1, or 16:9). Scenes without storyboards render normally, from the scene description plus your location/cast/asset references.

Full detail in [Storyboards: guiding how a scene looks](https://help.comicink.ai/en/article/storyboards-guiding-how-a-scene-looks-dx8v9m/).

### Video

The Video tab is the timeline: scene-by-scene previews of rendered clips, render controls, and Publish. Watch a scene's finished clip here — the Script document no longer shows an inline clip preview.

**Scenes are locked in the preview.** A scene clip always fills the frame; it can't be dragged or resized in the preview, so there is nothing to line up. Text and captions you add can still be moved. If an older video shows a scene off-centre over black, reopening the video snaps it back — see [the FAQ](https://help.comicink.ai/en/article/frequently-asked-questions-story-videos-4rtcd3/#my-video-is-mostly-black-with-the-scene-squeezed-into-a-strip-at-the-bottom-what-happened).

**What you can do here:**

- **Generate All Scenes** — starts a batch render of every unrendered scene. A credit-cost confirmation appears before any charges are applied.
- **Render one scene** — click an unrendered scene's tile on the timeline and choose **Render**. A scene that already has a clip is re-rendered from the **SCENE** tab in the Tools rail (see below), so you can re-do just one scene without touching the others. Each scene carries its own Model and Time selectors with a live credit estimate — see [Choosing a model and scene length](https://help.comicink.ai/en/article/choosing-a-model-and-scene-length-1qc3bfq/).
- **Add music and captions** — open the music library and the auto-caption workflow.
- **Publish** — opens the one Publish modal, which covers downloading an MP4, publishing a shareable link, and the optional 1080p upscale.

A scene tile shows its own progress while rendering (queued, rendering, uploading); there's no separate persistent render-progress strip elsewhere in the studio.

## The rail: Tools / Cast / Assets / Locations

The left rail holds four panes:

- **Tools** — every action, on two tabs (see next section).
- **Cast** — the characters in this video, carried over from your comics or added here.
- **Assets** — props and other visual assets.
- **Locations** — the settings scenes take place in. This replaced the old standalone References tab.

Cast, Assets, and Locations each show a reference image per entity so the AI keeps them visually consistent across scenes. You can regenerate any individual image, add new characters or assets, and add custom locations. If you add an entity after scenes already reference it, the studio queues image generation for the new entry.

### Tools: the VIDEO and SCENE tabs

The Tools pane has two tabs, the same way the comic editor's Tools pane has **ISSUE** and **PAGE**:

- **VIDEO** — actions on the whole video: Generate All Scenes, Add Music, Add Captions, Undo / Redo, Video Settings, Convert to Series, Publish, Delete Video.
- **SCENE** — actions on one scene. The tab is **named for the scene it will act on** — it reads "SCENE 3", not "Scene" — so you always know which scene a click will render, trim or change. It holds:
  - **Re-Render Scene**, with its credit estimate.
  - **Edit Script**, **AI Extend** and **Fix Audio** — see [AI Extend and Fix Audio](https://help.comicink.ai/en/article/ai-extend-and-fix-audio-127kq64/).
  - **Trim** — trim, or restore, half a second from the start or the end of the clip. Trimming closes the gap so later scenes slide left; restoring pushes them right.
  - **Speed** — the clip's playback rate, plus split-at-playhead and merge.
  - **Download Clip** and **Render History** — see [Rendering scenes](https://help.comicink.ai/en/article/rendering-scenes-per-scene-vs-generate-all-z30txn/#render-history-going-back-to-a-previous-render).

**Which scene the SCENE tab is on.** The one you last clicked on the timeline. Clicking a scene on the timeline switches the rail to its SCENE tab, and the pane slides in so you can see it changed. If you haven't clicked anything, it follows the playhead. Every scene-level control lives on this tab — there is no separate properties panel for a scene on the right. (Selecting the music track or the captions still opens their own panel on the right.)

**Search tools…** at the top of the rail searches **both tabs at once**. While you type, the tabs are replaced by the matching actions grouped under VIDEO and SCENE; clear the box to get the tabs back.

## How the full flow fits together

```
Create a blank video
  ↓  Describe your story to Sidekick — scenes are drafted into the Script document
  ↓  Edit scenes directly, or keep talking to Sidekick
Optional: Storyboard tab
  ↓  Click an empty tile to generate an opening/closing frame (charges immediately)
Video tab
  ↓  Render scenes (credits, estimate shown first)
  ↓  Render individually or with Generate All Scenes (cost confirmation shown)
  ↓  Publish — download, share link, or 1080p upscale
```

The video, and everything in it, stays editable at every point in this flow — including after publish.
